The Mets entered the final frame trailing 3-2, but things got interesting after Jeff McNeil started it off with a bunt single. He was then sacrificed to second base by Tomas Nido. McNeil got an unbelievable jump on a 2-1 offering to Nimmo and looked to have third base stolen, but Nimmo fouled the pitch off and showed clear frustration with himself over the situation. Not to worry though, as two pitches later he pulverized a cutter from Minter for a 396-foot (103.7 mph EV) walk-off blast. Not bad for his only at-bat in the contest. On the season, he’s now hitting .234/.379/.431 with six long balls and 27 RBI.

Ozuna gave the Braves the lead in the sixth inning with an RBI single off of Reed Garrett that made it a 2-1 ballgame. They then entered the eighth inning locked in a 2-2 tie, but got things started as Zack Short worked Adam Ottavino for a leadoff walk. He then swiped second base and raced around to score on Ozuna’s run-scoring single. The 33-year-old slugger finished the night 2-for-3 plus a walk and is slashing a robust .326/.404/.638 with 12 homers and a league-leading 40 RBI.

The Braves are calling his exit precautionary, but there’s still cause for concern. It’s unlikely that the club will have any additional updates until Monday. Fantasy managers should be sure to have a contingency plan in place for next week in the event that Riley is forced to miss a couple of games. Zack Short replaced him at third base on Sunday and could be in line for increased action if Riley does miss any time.

Giants’ skipper Bob Melvin called it a separated shoulder during his update, but the Giants corrected it to dislocated. He’ll undergo an MRI exam on Monday to determine the severity of the issue, but it sounds like he’s going to miss substantial time and could even be shelved for the remainder of the 2024 season. It’s a brutal blow to a Giants’ outfield that has lost Michael Conforto (hamstring) and Jorge Soler (shoulder) already in recent days.

The 37-year-old right-hander allowed just two hits and one walk on the day. He retired the first 14 hitters that he faced in order until he walked Andy Pages with two outs in the fifth inning. He then allowed a single to Enrique Hernandez, but got Miguel Rojas to line out to end the threat. Darvish generated 19 swings and misses on 101 pitches in the ballgame — one or more on eight different offerings — while posting an elite CSW of 36 percent. He has yet to allow a run over 17 innings since returning from the injured list and now boasts a 2.43 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and a 37/12 K/BB ratio over 40 2/3 innings on the year. He draws a tough assignment next time out though, having to take on the Braves in Atlanta on Saturday.

The 34-year-old right-hander scattered just five hits on the afternoon and didn’t walk a single batter. The only blemish on his day came in the form of a run-scoring double off the bat of Willie Calhoun in the sixth inning, otherwise he was masterful. Lugo generated a whopping 17 swings and misses on 112 pitches in the ballgame — eight of those on his curveball — while registering an elite CSW of 38 percent. He has been unbelievable for the Royals this season, posting a 6-1 record, 1.66 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and a 48/12 K/BB ratio over 59 2/3 innings in his first nine starts. He’ll look to keep the good times rolling when he takes on the Athletics at home on Saturday.

Lee had just returned to the Giants’ lineup on Sunday after missing the previous three games due to a sore foot. He’ll head for further evaluation to determine the severity of the injury and how much time he may miss. The Giants are already down Michael Conforto (hamstring) and Jorge Soler (shoulder) in their outfield, so an extended absence for Lee would be a major blow to an already depleted offense.

The effort put Carroll over the Mendoza Line on the season, as the 23-year-old is now hitting .201/.287/.266. Perhaps more encouraging, both of Carroll’s hits left the bat at over 100 mph. There are still real concerns about his ability to lift and drive the ball, and his home run projections all feel a bit high, but it’s nice to see him making authoritative contact.

Despite never throwing a pitch over 95 mph, Verlander induced eight pop outs and allowed just two hard-hit balls in a masterclass today. It’s the 50th time in his 514 career starts that he’s pitched at least seven innings and gone without allowing a run.

It was about as meaningless as a homer can be, coming with the Tigers down 9-1 with two outs in the ninth, but let’s not worry about that. Torkelson, who hit 31 homers last season, got his first today in his 164th plate appearances and 38th game. He had four doubles in his previous six games, so it did seem like the drought was due to end. His OPS has climbed from .553 on May 4 to .627 now.
